Bossier City Community Information

Education

Bossier City is home to Bossier Parrish Community College and Louisiana Tech University at Shreveport-Bossier City, or La Tech or Louisiana Tech as it is often called. The Bossier City campus includes the Cyber Innovation Center with the main campus located in Ruston. U.S. News & World Report ranked Louisiana Tech as a Tier 1 national university and is known particularly for its engineering programs. As of the fall 2011 academic quarter, there were roughly 11,600 students enrolled in the university with approximately 2,444 of those students enrolled in the university's graduate program.

The city's youth population is served by the schools of the Bossier Parrish Schools district, which is comprised of 19 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, 5 high schools, and 1 middle/high school.

Economy

One of Bossier City's largest employers is Barksdale Air Force Base, home of the oldest Bomb Wing in the Air Force, the 2d Bomb Wing. The base also houses a great number of the jet-powered strategic bomber planes, the B-52 Stratofortress.

Since Bossier City is located next to its sister city, Shreveport, many residents take advantage of Shreveport's job market. Some of the top employers in that city include the state government, Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center Shreveport, Bossier Parris School System, and U.S. Support, among others.

Outdoor Recreation

Bossier City straddles the Red River, offering residents and visitors with a great number of opportunities to take advantage of fun water sports and activities throughout the warm summer months. Nearby Cross Lake, Cypress Lake and the Bossier Reservoir also provide ample opportunities for residents to go swimming, fishing, boating, picnicking, or just relaxing along the shoreline. Also located along the banks of the river are three riverboat casino gambling resorts—Diamond Jack's, Horseshoe, and Boomtown—and Harrah's Louisiana Downs.

If you would rather stay on land, consider taking a visit to the Red River National Wildlife Refuge, visiting some of the city's local parks, checking out Chimp Haven in nearby Keithville, or golfing at The Golf Club at StoneBridge or Olde Oakes Golf Club.
